The Brewers and Cubs continue to mow
down the competition during the first half thus far with the Spartans
and Diamondbacks hot on their heels in 18+ league play.
Hopefully, we have seen the last of the forfeits this season and will
start seeing full game-play going forward. I expected challenges
for high playoff seeds by the Lions and Marlins. With those
teams back on track, look for a little better parity in the second
half. The Arklahoma Shootout is set and ready to go in two
weeks. Strong teams from OKC, Memphis, LR, Jonesboro, and Tulsa
are coming in to face NWAMSBL teams. We look to be making a
sizeable donation on behalf of the NWAMSBL to Pagnozzi Charities this
year. If your team is not involved in the Shootout, please come
watch some games or help volunteer. This tournament is a benefit
to the charity, the community, and our local league so please help
support this mid-season effort.--Stephen Boudreaux, President

White Sox 10 Strikers 7
Strikers 3 White Sox 10
FINALLY A CLOSE GAME! It seems
that parity is off a bit this season. Teams are either
run-ruling opponents or teams are forfeiting their chances. Not
so at Reiff Park with the Strikers and White Sox. On a
beautifully warm afternoon, the struggling White Sox looked to find
some chemistry heading into the mid-point of the season. The
White Sox had in the past week lost their two "ace" pitchers for the
remainder of the season and are going to have to rely on some crafty
veterans to pick up the pace. In game one, lefty Mark Taylor
took the hill against the still-up-and-coming Strikers. The
Strikers borrowed a couple of able bodies from the Cubs to help them
field a competitive team and it showed. While Taylor pitched a
nice, complete game fanning 7 batters, things looked like they might
be a little shaky having given up a dinger with the third pitch of the
day. The game seemed in hand, though with the Sox up 10-3 going
into the 7th when a tired Taylor let four runs come across.
Coach Boudreaux made a nifty play on a slow roller to end the game
showing distant signs of his former self. Having turned 40
this year, it may be his last season in the 18+... Offensively, Andy
Miller was 2-3 with 4RBI, Mike Lopez was 1-1 with 2BB, 3 Runs, 1RBI
and a stolen base.
In game two, Tom Spaniol looked to douse
any momentum the Strikers were building by striking out 11 batters and
giving up only 5 meaningless hits in a complete game effort.
Tom's location was nearly perfect as he had a 2-hitter going into the
7th. Anthony Osborne went 2-4 and scored 2 runs. Coach
Boudreaux was 3-4 with a run scored and 2RBI off borrowed pitching.
Highlights included an incredible infield base hit by Lyndall Bolinger
whose hustle on a healing broken leg allowed him to beat the throw by
sliding headlong into the bag. Also, the game ended on a Travis
Briggs laser beam throw down to second base to catch a runner off the
bag.--Stephen Boudreaux, White Sox

Old Style 11 Tigers 10
On Saturday the Tigers faced off against the Old Style on a great
day for Baseball. Both teams were short a few players but we still had
a great game with the Old Style coming out with the win. The tigers
went with Greg on the hill and he pitched a complete game racking up 8
k's. The Old Style used three pitchers getting 5 k's. The game was
back and forth all day until the 6th when the tigers pulled ahead with
4 runs off of a two run home run by Brian. The Old Style trailed by
three into the bottom of the ninth were we stung a few hits together
and came from behind to take the win with a final score of 11-10.--Aaron

Oklahoma Spartans Rout Arkansas Braves 28-1
Jimbo Harris, Peyton Nelson, Cody McCarter, and Seth Merrie all went
3-4 in the 28-1 win over the Arkansas Braves, Sunday.
Merrie's three-run homer scoring McCarter and Jarrett Tyler led the
way in the six-run first inning. Nelson had the first RBI of the
inning, sending Harris home on a double. The Spartans scored two more
runs in the inning on Tyler's double, scoring McCarter and John Rozell.
The Spartans scored one run in the second inning as Jason Girdner's
RBI single scored Miguel Ortiz. Ortiz had reached base on a hit by
pitch. The Spartans then exploded for 11 runs in the third inning,
sending 17 batters to the plate. Rozell started off with an RBI single
scoring McCarter then Bucky Lamb scored Merrie on a single. Harris
cleared the bases with a three run homer which cleared the right field
fence, scoring Lamb and Rozell ahead of him. Girdner continued the
hitting parade with a two RBI single that scored Nelson and Matt
Maddox. The Spartans loaded the bases again when Rozell was hit by
pitch, which forced David Stilwell home. Lamb followed with an RBI
walk that scored McCarter. Ortiz scored Merrie with a single followed
by a Maddox single that scored Lamb. Maddox scored on a fielder's
choice for the final run of the inning and an 18-1 lead.
The Braves finally had an inning where they held the Spartans
scoreless. McCarter singled and Matt Whaler walked but the side was
retired before any runs could score. The Spartans scored 10 runs in
the fifth inning as they batted around for the second time in the
game, sending 13 men to the plate. McCarter, Merrie, Josh King, all

Brewers 11 Spartans 4
The Brewers took on the Spartans at Fayetteville High on a great day
for baseball. The Brewers picked up right where they left off last
year by beating the Spartans 11-4. There was a lot of hype going into
the game as Spantan manager J D Higgins might have been a little over
confident by promising a run rule on the defending champions. While it
was an intense game, it was no where near the "real eye-opener for the
league" as promised. Rick Elliott threw 7 strong innings and then
turned it over to Cory Grist for the final 2 innings. Wayne Hrozek had
a two run homerun and also an RBI single to lead the Brewers. Nick
Makris had an RBI double off the wall in center to open the game up.
The Spartans have many players with good sportsmanship and great
talent, lead by Jason Girdner and Cody McCarter. We look forward to
another match up against this good team in the future. Hopefully next
time, Higgins is the one with his eyes open.--Rick Elliot, Brewers
The Oklahoma Spartans lost to the Fayettville Brewers 11-4 in the
Northwest Arkansas Men's Senior Baseball League game Sunday at
Fayettville. The Spartans scored three runs in the third inning.
Jimbo Harris of Tahlequah and Dave Stilwell and Payton Nelson both of
Stilwell loaded the bases with three singes. Jason Girdner also from
Tahlequah had an a two RBI double to score Harris ans Jarrett Tyler.
Tyler the scored Nelson with a double. Stilwell scored the
fourth run of the game for the Spartans in the seventh inning on a
balk. The starting pitcher for the Spartans was Bucky Lamb going the
first four innings with five strike outs. Cody McCarter pitched the
fifth and sixth innings with three strike outs. Girdner finished the
game by pitching the seventh and eighth innings with three strike
outs. "We beat ourselves but I thought we played as well as
expected since was our first game we played as a team. Our hitting was
good, but right to someone. We just have to find the holes. When we do
that we will score a lot of runs. Pitching wise we just need to find a
set rotation, but all in all our pitching did good for our first game"
said Coach J.D. Higgins Harris was the leading hitter for the Spartans
with a 2-4 day at the plate. The next game for the Spartans will
against the Arkansas Braves at White River Park in Fayettville Sunday
June 22 at 3:00.--Lynn Womack, Tahlequah Daily Press
White Sox 5 Marlins 11
The opening day for the Marlins and White Sox looked to be a real
tough battle with the score 4-3 Sox into the top of the 6th and
then 6-4 Marlins through the top of the 8th. That's when things
fell off for the Sox with the Marlins plating 5 in the bottom of the
frame. The Sox could only score one in the top of the 9th.
White Sox pitcher Evan Neiser pitched well through 6 to give the Sox a
chance striking out 6 in the loss. Mark Taylor relieved
striking out 5. Patterson for the Marlins struck out 7 White Sox
batters in a strong effort to earn the win giving up only 4 scattered
hits.--Stephen Boudreaux, White Sox
